World’s Most Expensive Hotels

I had a dream last night that I was in a really swanky hotel somewhere (I had my own personal plunge pool with Jacuzzi) which has a see thru wall overlooking the Alps or some such spectacular mountain range. Also I was being waited on hand and foot, my every whim being catered to. I was not really sorry when I woke up, I really would not know what to do with that much opulence and that much self indulgence; but my dream did inspire me to do this post about the most expensive hotels in the world.

The creator of definitive lists, Forbes names the Bridge Suite of the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas as the most expensive hotel room, which will set you back (if you have that kind of cash in the first place) a whopping $25,000 per night!
What does that mean; that kind of obscene sum to be spent for one day/night? Do people really spend that money and actually stay in those rooms at that price. Also why on earth does it cost so much? For that much money you can buy are reasonably plush apartment in a decent location. OK for one it is a ten room suite (why would you need ten rooms though unless you had a very large family or traveled with a very large entourage though) and is located on top of a bridge that connects the two Royal Towers buildings, so it overlooks the entire resort and marina. That the room comes with a personal chef and butler is a given. A bar lounge, entertainment center and hand painted bed linens are some of the other fancy extras.

The Imperial Suite at the President Wilson Hotel in Geneva comprises the entire top floor of the hotel and their USP is tight security (to say nothing of bullet proof doors and windows), and the kind of secrecy that the Swiss are so famous for. A night there will cost $23,600.

The Presidential Suite at the Martinez Hotel at Cannes will cost $18,000 per night but I wonder if the admittedly stunning view is worth that much.

This hotel has featured in countless Hollywood flicks and is perhaps recognizable to millions worldwide. With its proximity to Central park the Plaza hotel is an icon for New York. The presidential suite here costs $15,000 a night. There is a 2000 bottle wine cellar but you have to fork out extra for that. Apparently 15,000 bucks are not enough for that!

If you would like a bit of the Sistine chapel in your room, (kind of) then Villa La Cupola suite at the Westin Excelsior at Rome is for you. Opulence personified, this costs $14,312/-
Tell you what people, if I had that kind of money to spend, I would do much more worthwhile stuff with it. What do you think?
